Beyonce’s Final Litter

28 Jul

I can’t believe we are already here! Beyonce had her final litter of just 2 girls on Wednesday, May 31st. I believe artificial insemination contributed to the small size of her litter but Mother Nature would be the authority on this one and I’m just guessing. I’ve been posting updates on Instagram and Facebook but I want to show off these beautiful girls and the pictures I took of their weekly weigh ins

Here there are on their birthday:

iCloud Shared Albums

15 Apr

When I first started out in 2014 someone commented that I posted too many pictures on Facebook. When I purchased my dogs I hated that I never got ENOUGH pics so that comment really surprised me but I figured if one person felt that way then there are others that agree. I was telling my husband Andru about this and he suggested creating iCloud shared albums. If you don’t know about this feature I’m about to change your world!

This is from JLo and Koa’s last litter. By the time they went home I had shared over ONE THOUSAND pictures with those 6 families! I know that had to feel amazing because I’m currently waiting on a new puppy and she was 8 weeks old yesterday and I have received maybe 15 picture maximum.

This album is from JLo and Koa’s current litter and they will be 7 weeks old in just 2 days so I’ll be adding to the album and beating the number of pics from our last litter of 6 and this is only 4 puppies!!

These albums are in addition to the daily snaps I add on Snapchat (also saved on YouTube) and the puppy cam going 24/7. I really want families to be able to see their puppies as they grow and have those memories forever.

I think this is just one example of the extra things that I do for my families that is above what other breeders are doing and I love being able to provide so many memories for my new families.

I bet you can find a use for shared albums too. I’ve also used these when on vacation with a friend so we can both add our pictures to the same album, also spending a few hours at the lavender festival ended up with hundreds of beautiful pictures. Andru and I have used it many times for different dog picks (for example Easter shots or we’ve done Christmas, Hanukkah) and we also have a shared folder for pics of his son. If you don’t know how to use it give it a quick google.

Easter 2017

15 Apr

I wanted to get some Easter pics of the girls. I see so many adorable pics on Instagram now, I’m amazed at the talented, creative people taking adorable pics of their dogs.

I know my husband takes WAY BETTER pics and I still can’t figure out the “depth effect” on my iPhone 7 plus so I asked him if he could also take a few. Wow! Of course his are way better!!! Aren’t these girls so cute! I wish we had Shakira and Rihanna here for pics today

Puppies Need Patience!

30 Dec

Back in October, the weekend we had our 3rd reunion planned, the news started reporting about an upcoming record breaking storm. One of my families sent me this text which is just awful and at the same time hilarious (because it didn’t happen to ME I can find it hilarious)

My first reaction was that this pic wasn’t real or just something she found on the internet but sure enough it was very real. Kim has a JLo/Koa puppy, Kingston. Kim was running errands preparing for Stormageddon 2016 and she said she left Kingston in the car alone for maybe 15 minutes MAX and came out to see this mess. He had pooped in the car and then ran all over getting it EVERYWHERE!!

I love that Kim was able to immediately joke about the situation because honestly my first reaction would probably not be laughter.

I just wanted to share because I do expect something like this to happen to every new dog owner. It might not be this extreme but I want to be sure you know that in addition to all of the adorable pics and cuddly moments with your new dog there is bound to be a little chaos too and I need you to be prepared for that. Keep in mind that I will be here for support and when you are ready for it – some laughs.

Therapy Dogs at SeaTac Airport

11 Mar

Paws 4 Passengers - 2015 Team Photo

After we traveled to Sacramento last month and were greeted by the Boarding Area Relaxation Corp (BARC) team I knew I wanted to be involved in getting this to Seattle. I received a response today the manager of airport customer service at SeaTac and found out they already have a Therapy Dog Program at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. I was SO EXCITED to get this response:

During my search I connected with Debbie Harvey; Debbie is the person responsible for getting the program going in Reno as well as a few other airports. If you are in another state and somehow found my site, please contact me and I’ll get you in touch with Debbie. She is AMAZING. She is a retired pilot with flight priveldges and said she can travel anywhere to help, even if it is just to provide some support to get the program going. She is so dedicated to this program and she spent over an hour talking to me on the phone and gave me a lot of great advice. Debbie had already suggested that I contact Pet Partners for registration. Unfortunately I found out that one of the requirements of Pet Partners is that the dogs cannot have a raw food diet. I feel a little bit heartbroken over this because I really REALLY wanted to be involved in the program. I really have a strong belief in feeding raw and I’m not willing to change that. But if you are interested at all in this program, in reducing stress in travelers and making people feel GOOD then please let me know.

In addition to Seattle, here is a list of US airports with therapy dog programs:

Albany, NY
Albuquerque, NM
Augusta, GA
Buffalo, NY
Columbia, S. C.
Denver, CO
Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Grand Rapids, MC
Memphis, TN
Miami, FL
Minn. St. Paul, MN
Norfork, VA
Oklahoma City OK
Ontario, CA
Sacramento, CA
Salt Lake City, UT
San Antonio, TX
San Diego, CA
San Jose, CA
Tampa, FL
Willmington, N. C.

There is also 3 Canadian airports that have the program also:

Edmonton, Canada
Regina, Canada
Saskatoon, Canada

I was also given a list with 10 airports that are in the planning stages of the program and I’m not totally sure if that was information I’m allowed to share so for now I’ll just say it could be coming to your area soon!

Debbie told me the program started in 2001 in San Jose, CA (SJC) by airport Chaplain Kathryn Liebschutz and her dog, Dolly the Dalmation. Liebschutz was a member of the airport’s Interfaith Chaplaincy and on the morning of September 11st all chaplains were summoned to the San Jose airport to help passengers stranded by grounded planes or console those just arriving who might have just heard of the attacks. On September 13th, commercial flights resumed but stress levels were high. I did not get to speak to Chaplain Liebschutz however the story that Debbie explained to me was that Dolly the Dalmation was already registered as a therapy dog so Chaplain Liebschutz brought Dolly with her to the airport to comfort stressed travelers and that is where the program began.

I know when I saw 3 dogs with signs that said PET ME it felt better than someone telling me to come over their way for some free money because you know there is always a catch – there was no catch with these dogs just a lot of love. You will have to donate a good amount of your time to get your dog ready for this program but what an amazing program!!!

Improper Coat (IC) and A New Stud

05 Jan

I’ve been doing this for over a year now and I really do have so much more to learn. Shakira is the first dog I purchased, a mini F1b labradoodle from FoxTail Ridge Labradoodles (I own the site now so if you search for him you’ll get back here but you can get some nice comments still in a google search). My breeder, Thom had planned on retiring and after some discussion he said he would be available to give me advice from time to time and that has been fantastic but things change every year and Thom has been retired for a few years now. Whenever I asked other breeders question or posted in breeder forums or FB pages the response was rarely an answer to my question but the demand to ‘GET YOUR HEALTH TESTING’! So I followed that advice and just focused on the health testing of my dogs and am proud to share links on my site to their OFA test results. I never thought about testing what color the girls might carry because I think all colors are cute so I didn’t really care about coat testing. Shakira’s first litter with Gizmo resulted in 4 puppies and 2 are fluffy, 1 looks very similar to Shakira (semi-fluffy) and 1 has a very straight coat. I thought this was just the retriever genes coming out. I used the same beautiful stud Gizmo with Beyonce and for her first litter she had 5 puppies and 4 are fluffy and 1 is straight. Since this happened with both dogs I assumed the problem was with Gizmo (the stud I used) but you can’t tell if the puppy’s coat is going to curl for several weeks and by then Shakira was already in heat so we used Gizmo a third and last time. Shakira’s second litter had one puppy with a straight coat so that confirmed for me it was Gizmo. Side note – isn’t that just like a mom, it couldn’t possibly be something wrong MY girls, right? Haha.

By the time Beyonce was ready for her second litter Teddy was old enough for breeding and he had passed his health testing and is a gorgeous boy with a great temperament so we got them together and she had 7 puppies this time. As the weeks went on it was obvious that they weren’t all going to be fluffy; I learned the term is called improper coat and there is a test for it. All of my puppies have been healthy and every family that has a straight coat, also called “flat” coat, or improper coat is the correct term, they are all happy with their dog and wouldn’t change a thing but I prefer the look of fluffy curls. Shakira and Teddy also had a litter of six girls together and two had straight coats. It was time that I ordered the test and get some answers.

I purchased the test from Paw Print Genetics which also gives you access to a reproductive specialist to discuss the results and ask all the questions on my mind. After getting everyone tested I found that Beyonce and Shakira both carry a one copy of the IC (improper coat) gene and JLo is “clear”, she does not carry for IC and she will always have fluffy puppies. So the issues wasn’t JUST my studs, both parents have to carry one copy of the gene which will result in at least 25% showing the improper coat. For breeders that may have found this post in a google search, I’m happy to share more information that might be too detailed for someone just shopping for a puppy. You can email or text me and I’m happy to share what I found.

So it was exciting to learn something new and so useful and at the same time devastating that 2 of my 3 girls carried and so does Teddy. Just to be clear, this is not a health issue – puppies are still healthy even if they have an improper coat it just changes the look of the dog. It is very rare for a poodle to carry this gene but when they do, it is typically the reds that have it. So I ordered the test for Jay Z in November and hoped for the best but unfortunately on December 18th his test came back that he also carried one copy of the IC gene which means if I use him with Beyonce or Shakira we will have at least one straight coat puppy.

I spent my entire Christmas holiday with my computer or iPad on my lap frantically searching for a new stud. It was difficult to find a dog that had the health testing I wanted, was IC clear AND was small enough for 19 pound Beyonce. This is definitely another time I have to recognize my husband Andru for being so patient with me when all I wanted to look at or talk about was stud dogs for two weeks. I found what I feel like is the PERFECT match so I am proud to announce a new stud – his bio is here!

You have to know by now that I am obsessed with dogs. I’m working on my Christmas list for Santa and think both of these items are super cute! Are diamonds and doggies going overboard or a perfect fit? 😇❤️🐶💝

Himalayan Dog Chews

12 Sep

Look what arrived yesterday! Treats for my baby girls and puppies. I wanted to share a product that I buy (this has NOT been gifted to me for free in exchange for reviewing) and love! All of my girls are minis (goldendoodle and two labradoodles) and sometimes it is hard to find a natural product that fits a small mouth. These come in different sizes so if you have a big dog or small you’ll be able to get these too!

You might have seen this product on the TV show “Shark Tank” but we were already buying before we saw that, although I do love that show! If you have never heard of this product please check out their site and consider buying for your pup. This is a local Seattle company (Mukilteo to be exact) and it is a natural product – the ingredients in the dog chews are yak and cow milk, salt and lime…and that is it!

I buy in bulk for my girls and for the puppies while they are here but I purchase the regular, commercially packaged product for my puppies to take home so their families know what to look for when they are at Mud Bay and other retailers (the people at Mud Bay have been kind enough to give me $off coupons for my new puppy families, thank you!)

They will chew on these sticks for hours which is fantastic for teething puppies! Here is a bit more information taken from the literature they included in my order

In addition to the sticks (referred to as “dog chew”) I also purchase the yaky puff which is just bite size pieces of the stick microwaved for about a minute. Same taste as the stick and still crunchy but my girls can enjoy this as a bite size treat without as much effort which is a good starter if your dog loses interest in the sticks. My puppies LOVE these!

You can buy the nuggets and microwave yourself or boil to soften and add them in food if you have a picky eater

Or you can purchase your puffs already puffed

Happy Birthday! We Have Puppies 7/25/15

25 Jul

We took Beyonce’s temperature before dinner last night and it had dropped below 100, she didn’t want to eat any dinner (she hasn’t been eating much lately) and she starting digging around the house so I thought last night might be the night but when it came time for bed I started to doubt myself because I was off last time with Shakira but I decided to sleep in the bathroom anyway and I’m so glad I did!

We came upstairs around midnight and Beyonce could not get comfortable. We put a gate on the bathroom door so she didn’t wander too far, so with the kiddie pool and now me on the floor she didn’t have a lot of room to pace but she certainly tried. She also kept digging at the bedding and carpets. Around 4am I thought she might be getting close and I took her out for one final potty break. Around 5am she was sleeping on my feet and I felt her water break. She got up and scratched at the floor and jumped in the kiddie pool and had her first baby within about 2 minutes of getting in the pool. It is so amazing how much they do on their own.

The first puppy came out at 5:34am and I made sure she broke the sac and the puppy was breathing before I went to wake up Andru. It took Beyonce about 12 minutes to completely chew the umbilical cord and I was starting to get nervous and googling for a refresher if I had to take over but everything worked out. This was our first black puppy and it looked kind of scary in the sac. I read somewhere that dogs prefer to keep the lights dim and I usually follow that but the black dogs looked like they had turned blue in the sac so I had to turn on all the lights to be sure everything was ok. I’m honestly still so nervous with every litter. When we got the X-rays the other day, I was sharing my fears with Dr Raja and starting crying because I was just so nervous. He said some people do this because they are passionate and some people breed dogs for business and I might be a little too passionate right now. He said “if one dog doesn’t make it then you have to think about the ones that do and focus on them”. Oh my gosh!! I can’t even imagine. I just need every puppy to make it. I’m surprised how many breeders I see posting about stillborn puppies and complications; I know this is always a possibility but I really do believe that with a record of 21-0 that the diet we feed our dogs has got to be the secret to my success.

So it took about 3 hours and we now have seven adorable puppies upstairs in our master bath! Two girls and five boys. Beyonce did fantastic and all of the puppies are doing great. I try not to hold them too much in the beginning and I don’t weigh them or put collars on until day 2 so I’ll update with weights soon. We have 4 black puppies and 3 that are kinda of cream/apricot – we’ll see how they develop. I will post many pics along the way! We are so excited! Oh and we have 3 available puppies 😃🐶
